Lower Owens

December has been a lot of fun on the Lower O. Warm temps in the mid 70’s have us fishing in t-shirts and sunscreen.

The Tricos and PMD’s have piddled out and are all but done for the year. Midges are out early and clouds can be found buzzing the water throughout the entire day.

BWO’s are hatching around noon on certain days, its been hit or miss on the hatch, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. I like to get in an area with good dry fly water where I can observe several runs where fish may rise. Sometimes you have to cover lots of water to find them.

Caddis are out as well, walking through the grass or a slight breeze will reveal these and sometimes get a few on the water to see who’s looking up!

Streamers have been our go-to this month and more exciting than nymphing. The water is really clear and we’ve been getting a good look at the fish chasing and crushing our streamers!

Give us a call, we’d love to introduce you to winter streamer fishing, or help you improve your existing game! 760-920-0659
